Who are TOFOG?

TOFOG is an acronym for 'Thirty Odd Foot Of Grunts'. They are a band consisting of six members. Garth Adam plays bass, Dean Cochran plays lead guitar, Russell Crowe is the singer and also plays guitar, Dave Kelly plays drums and has a bit of a sing, Stewart Kirwan plays trumpet and flugelhorn and also sings and Dave Wilkins plays yet another guitar and does lots of singing.

How the hell did you get that name?

Hmmm…. Yes.

Gee, that singer's name sounds familiar.

Have a look at MAXIMUM CROWE for more information on our singer's day job.

How did the band get together?

Dean and Russell have worked together as musicians since their teen years. They moved to Australia from New Zealand in 1987 and met Garth and Dave Kelly shortly afterwards. The original TOFOG formed in 1992 and consisted of Russell, Garth, Dean, a drummer called Don Brown and a guitarist called Mark Rosieur. Dave Kelly traveled with the band on their first tour as a cameraman and shot a lot of the footage that you can see in the 'What's Her Name?' clip. Dave K, Garth & Dean had jammed together in various projects since meeting in 87, so, when Don Brown decided to get a real job, it was an easy transition for Dave to move in and take his place. Mark Rosieur also moved on and the band with the 4 core members toured quite a bit and recorded most of the tracks you hear on Gasligh'.

Stew Kirwan came along in 1998 when we needed a trumpeter so we could play 'Circus' on a live TV show. He didn't fit in at all, but a trumpeter is a life-long commitment--not just for Christmas--so we kept him. Besides, he looks like he's straight out of the Backstreet Boys, which is a good thing…

Dave Wilkins toured in his band The Utopian Babies opening for TOFOG in Australia and at our first U.S. gig at The Viper Room. He was a good singer and could drink a lot of beer and therefore found himself as the sixth band member. The rest is recent history…

When are you touring/recording/releasing a record next?

I know we have had a pretty bad track record when it comes to keeping you all up to date, but we promise we are changing our ways. As soon as there is any information of this kind confirmed (i.e. not rumored) it will be posted on our news page….honestly.

Who is this Bruno guy people talk about?

Bruno is kind of like the 7th Grunt. He has been with the band since the beginning and has been responsible for a whole bunch of things such as tour management, front-of-house sound, Web site stuff. On top of that he has his own sound, lighting & management company called Nightshift Productions. If you haven't met him you should…He's a nice guy.

Who is the Ray guy and why does he have a page on this site?

Ray is our A&R representative at Artemis records, our US label. He is active in promoting the band and likes to keep people informed of what he is up to…so we offered him a page on this site which he will be updating every week with the latest news. Another very nice guy…
