What's Her Name?

Russell talks about the tracks

TRACK ONE - WHAT'S HER NAME?
The 'her' in 'What's Her Name is beautiful, massively intelligent, unfazed, creative, witty, she laughs easily, has a
smile that knocks over buildings, a walk that makes grown men cry. She is a princess. She is also married....To a really
nice guy...Shit. She shall remain nameless and out of reach, in every way except my imagination.

TRACK TWO - OBLIQUE IS MY LOVE
In Australia there exists what is commonly referred to as the 'tall poppy' syndrome...If you lift your head higher than
others they will try to cut it off. This phenomena is actually present in all countries but more obvious in an egalitarian
society like Australia. When I first went to America in 1992 I wasn't famous in Australia, but every time I came home I
seemed to get a little more well known, through films like Romper Stomper and The Sum Of Us. It was like being part of a
high school economics example for the point of diminishing returns. The more time I spent out of the country the more
famous I got....But the more famous I got the less people wanted to know me. There is still a cultural cringe here and
people believe that if you have the opportunity to live somewhere 'cool' like L.A., N.Y.C or London that naturally you
would take it. As much as I enjoy seeing all these other places and as much as I understand the privilege of working on
U.S. or other international productions, this is my home. I choose to live in the great southern land and make no
apologies for doing so.
This song is a love letter to Australia.

TRACK THREE - ALL THE WHITE CIRCLES
In case you haven't worked it out all of our songs are love songs of one type or another. This one is about trying to
live up to someone else's stated requirements then realising that it was killing me to do so. "Hey Prince of Innocence
you're full of excuses, Wrestling desire...won't light the fuses". If you can't be who you are in a relationship, then
just let it go.

TRACK FOUR - BIG JET PLANES
Don't be surprised if this song turns up on another album sometime down the track. It was written and recorded at Deans
place on the same day and although the arrangement remains the same with the addition of drums, this song really goes
well in our live shows. It is about a girl I met in Perth who just needed to have all of life straight away, inevitably
leading to some pretty major trouble...But I do find myself wondering if my all work and no play groove when I was
younger caused me to miss out on some great life experiences. There is irony and sarcasm in the lyric "I'm one of the
lucky ones...I live in a quiet street."
